Charcoal Study by Mitsuno Reedy

Mitsuno has been studying at the Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia (www.studioincamminati.org), doing some beautiful, beautiful work. She has (of course) already received much recognition among her peers and instructors there. Her study has been primarily in charcoal, and we are honored that she will be teaching a 3-day workshop June 29 30 and July 1 at Dennis Parker's Art Studio, including both still life and portrait. A native of Osaka, Japan, Mitsuno Ishii Reedy began her career in mid-1970's painting portraits, still lifes, and landscapes for collectors throughout the United States. She was elected a full member of Pastel Society of America in 1978, an associate member of the Pastel Society of Japan (Gendai Pastel Kyokai) in 2001, has been listed in Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in American Art. Reedy's commissioned portraits include corporate and civic leaders, college deans, doctors, military officers, and family and children's portraits. Her portraits of the famous opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti were presented to him in 1982 when Mr. Pavarotti gave the first of several charity concerts. She also enjoys plein-air paintings, as well as still life paintings and figure studies in oil, pastel and Cente pencil. Reedy is represented by Howell Gallery, OKC. OPS August 2012 Small Works Show

We will be having our annual small works show beginning in August at Adelante Gallery in Paseo so be painting in preparation for the show. More information will follow.

Appalachian Pastel Society

The Appalachian Pastel Society invites artists to submit work for their 2012 National Juried Exhibition to be held October 18 - December 14, 2012 at The Asheville School in Asheville, North Carolina. More than $3,000 in cash prizes and art supply gift certificates will be awarded, including a $1,000 Best in Show Cash Award.  Deadline for receiving entries is August 1, 2012. New Mexico Pastel Society Annual Show

Digital entries due August 15 for the Pastel Society of New Mexico 21st Annual National Pastel Painting Exhibition, November 2-25, 2012, to be held at Expo New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. Judge of Awards is Kim Lordier. Jurors are Lorenzo Chavez, Susan Ogilvie and William Schneider. Cash and merchandise awards of approximately $10,000. Original and 80% soft pastels only. TED MAJKA

Our May meeting will be held May 14 at our usual location-Will Rogers Garden Center at 6:30 PM and we’re excited to have Ted Majka as our final demo before the summer break. Ted is a well known teacher and artist in Oklahoma City His excellent work is consistently accepted in jurored shows where it has won numerous awards. His use of color and the application of pastels is exceptional and he has influenced the work of many local artists including Becky Way. He will be showing how he takes an existing painting in oils and turns it into a pastel painting. Don’t miss this opportunity to see how Ted does a makeover on his own work.

COMING IN OCTOBER! Desmond O'Hagan will be doing a two-day workshop for OPS October 6 and 7, 2012. An internationally recognized artist, O'Hagan O'Hagan possesses the versatility to paint any subject. His class is filling fast.
