The Oklahoma Pastel Society presents Plein air workshops by award winning Pastel Artist, Clive R. Tyler from Taos, New Mexico. Clive was selected in Jan. 09 as one of the Top Ten Artists to Collect & Watch in Southwest Art Magazine, winner of 6 awards from the Pastel Journal in the last 3 years, participates in Quick Draws yearly and offers a limited amount of plein air workshops a year. Adelante! Gallery is honored to exhibit Clive's new work opening May 1st and help promote his workshops hosted by OPS. Workshops are limited to 10-12 students. The workshops are relaxed, fun, full of information and one on one attention from Clive.

Plein air location will be at a berry farm north of Edmond (near Oklahoma City) and other nearby locations will be announced at registration. In case of rain another site has been selected.

A note from Clive : "My workshops are about getting in touch with your creative side, getting rid of fear and being free to try new techniques and learning other approaches to painting landscape and learning more about pastel. Pastel offers clean colors, the ability to work quickly and unique properties that cannot be accomplished with other mediums. I teach a Plein air workshop as I believe that you can learn the most from the real and changing world. Yes it is challenging with the uncontrollable elements, but my students have learned new insights and concepts to paint by and to take back to the studio. If you want to learn more about Plein air, Atmospheric conditions, Color, Values, you will get something of great value from my classes.

"Landscape Photos to plein air; why there is a difference. I teach a simple approach on 'How to" but will explain the 'whys' warm colors turn cool, what cool really means, why colors fade and grey out. We take on landscapes, skies, water, and trees and rocks.

"We will work on how to simplify what we are looking at so our approach to painting will go quickly. I will do several demonstrations over the course of the 3 day and the 2 day workshops in pastels. You will get personal attention, and handouts. All levels of experience are welcome. There is always something new to learn."

A supply list will be sent when you register.
