Benefits of membership in the Oklahoma Pastel Society

What’s the best way to find out what Oklahoma Pastel Society members believe are the benefits of becoming a member of this organization? Ask them! So, in response to that question, here are some “items of benefit” according to some of our members:

Comraderie – the uncomplicated fun of sharing with like-minded people. It’s wonderful to be able to say “pastels” and not have to explain that you’re not talking about a pale tint of a color. We share experiences of all sorts of things – workshops, supports to paint on, different brands and types of pastels, places to paint en plein air, books, art supply stores and/or websites and more.

Workshops and Programs – the Oklahoma Pastel Society has hosted workshops taught by wonderful artists (who just happen to be very giving and gifted instructors too) – such as Lorenzo Chavez, Terry Ludwig, Mitsuno Reedy, Dale Martin, Becky Way, Marie Kash Weltzheimer, and Sara Oakley, to name a few. Programs have been presented by many of these same instructors, as well as Clive Tyler, Gary Lennon, Colleen Brown, Sheila Minnich, Dennis Parker, Charlotte Rodgers, Dea Scales, Linda Hiller, Gary Yazzie and others.

Exposure for their Art – through two or more shows each year, the Oklahoma Pastel Society members work to find additional new venues for member artists to show – and sell – their art. Many of our shows are judged for prizes also.

Website – our website has much to offer the members. From the “Artist(s) of the Month” spotlight to the gallery pages to links to other pastel groups and to various art supply and related websites, our members can find answers and inspiration.

Oklahoma has a vibrant and ever-growing community of artists. Through Oklahoma Pastel Society’s members participation in other related (and sometimes not so obviously related!) art organizations, we are inspired by others and can in turn be a spark of inspiration. We share news of show opportunities; pursue community outreach possibilities; recognize artists who have received awards from local to state, national to international; and engage the public in appreciation and creation of art!
