DEBBY KASPARI

"Roger's Barn" - Debby Kaspari

According to Debby's blog, "In 2011, I drew pictures of archaeological ruins in the New England forest, working on location, plein air from March to November, 2011. To decipher what I was seeing and drawing, I studied the history of the sites and the ecology of the forest. I'm back home in Oklahoma, sorting out what I saw and did and learned, and trying to write about it." Debby has traveled all over the world, including many drawing/painting trips to tropical rainforests. She first began drawing and painting the rainforest on a trip to Trinidad in the 1980s. She fell in love with the lush exotic landscape and made many subsequent trips to the tropics, including sites in Panama and Costa Rica. Last winter, a grant from the Don and Virginia Eckelberry Endowment allowed her to make a trip up the Amazon River to work at a research station deep in the rainforest of Peru, resulting in artworks for “Drawing the Motmot: An Artist’s View of Tropical Nature” at Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. Debby will share experiences, slides, drawings and other great inforation and inspiration at our next meeting. Don't miss it! And while you're waiting, check out her amazing stories on her blog.
