"Hidden Places" by Phyllis Baker

PHYLLIS BAKER renewed her interest in art after a full career and life raising three children. She began studying with Leslie Lienau and quickly found a friend and mentor and that was the direction and inspiration she needed. She lives in Edmond with her husband and their three dogs. She is a member of OPS, OAG, OVAC, EAA and IAPS and is represented by The Dean Lively Gallery in Edmond, Ok.

MITSUNO REEDY - January 12, 2009


"Brenda" by Mitsuno Reedy
A native of Osaka, Japan, Mitsuno Ishii Reedy began her career in mid-1970's painting portraits, still lifes, and landscapes for collectors throughout the United States. She was elected a full member of Pastel Society of America in 1978, an associate member of the Pastel Society of Japan (Gendai Pastel Kyokai) in 2001, has been listed in Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in American Art. Reedy's commissioned portraits include corporate and civic leaders, college deans, doctors, military officers, and family and children's portraits. Her portraits of the famous opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti were presented to him in 1982 when Mr. Pavarotti gave the first of several charity concerts. She also enjoys plein-air paintings, as well as still life paintings and figure studies in oil, pastel and Cente pencil. Reedy is represented by Howell Gallery, OKC. Seventy-five two- dimensional works of art and several alternates will be selected to represent the finest examples of pastel painting and drawing being produced by today’s visual artists. Show Information:

The Oklahoma Art Guild has announced a Call for Entries for “Oklahoma Friendly,” their 2009 National Juried Exhibition. Here’s a brief timeline: entries are due January 17, 2009 with acceptance notification by January 30, 2009; show dates are March 6 through April 11 at City Arts Center with an opening reception on March 5, 2009. The annual fall show opening was October 24. Check out a few images from the show.

World famous Frankhoma Pottery, located in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, is looking for artwork with an Oklahoma theme. They’ve recently remodeled the Frankhoma store, adding a museum and a Department of Transportation Visitor Center. With the expected increase in store traffic, they want to add products – and art – made in Oklahoma and/or with an Oklahoma theme. Check News for more details and contact information.

Workshop Information:

Marie Kash Weltzheimer will be teaching several workshops in Ardmore, all in conjunction with her exhibition at the Charles B. Goddard Center (in Ardmore) of Southwest and Oklahoma Pastel landscapes. The show will run from November 25, 2008 through January 9, 2009. A closing reception, will be on January 9th, beginning at 6:00 p.m., with entertainment provided by well-known local guitarist Edgar Cruz. Workshops for area students and adults are tentatively scheduled for January 15and 16, 2009.

Becky Way will give a two-day workshop the third weekend of February 09. Details to follow.

Clive Tyler will be back for two workshops in 2009! They are scheduled for the first week in May and the first week in October. Check back for more details.

Other workshops in the planning stages: Colleen Brown, Dale Martin, Mitsuno Reedy, Ron Chapman, and Marie Weltzheimer.
