Debbie grew up drawing the Sunday cartoons from the newspaper. She has always wanted to be an artist and admired Monet and Van Gogh. In 1986 she took an oil painting class at the city Vo-Tech at the urging of a friend. She then went to Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma and studied with Larry Stephenson, learning color theory and oil painting.
She moved to Stillwater Oklahoma and became involved in the Stillwater Art Guild where she discovered soft pastels. Dale Martin of Jennings, Oklahoma did a demonstration with pastels which inspired her to the medium. She has studied under Becky Way, Jude Tolar, Dale Martin, and Clive Tyler. Jude Tolar has been a good friend and inspiration. She is a member of the Oklahoma Pastel Society and the Stillwater Art Guild.
Debbie lives with her husband on acreage outside of Morrison, Oklahoma with her horse, Poncho, 10 hens and one rooster named Elvis, and a Jack Russell who is appropriately named Jack.
