Workshop: Painting Rocks and Water
In my morning demo, I’ll be painting a landscape scene of a creek flowing around and over rocks. We’ll tackle the same subjects in the afternoon mini-workshop. I’ll have some reference photos available, but feel free to bring your own to use. I will provide isopropyl alcohol, artists’ tape, and a few extra brushes, as well. Here are the suggested supplies for you to bring:
• a variety of soft pastels in various colors, temperatures, and values (including earth tones)
• an easel and backing board to support your painting surface
• white or light-colored sanded paper such as UART or LuxArchival*
• paper towels and gloves, barrier cream and/or wet wipes to keep your hands clean
• a small container for isopropyl alcohol
• a couple of bristle brushes between 1/2-inch and 1-inch wide
We’ll be using a wet underpainting technique, so you may want to consider having your sanded paper mounted to a panel
or foam board for extra rigidity and to keep it from buckling.
Mini-workshops are $40 for OPS members, $45 for guests/non-members. You can pay in person at the time of the workshop by cash or check or use the links below (which include a transaction fee).
